Canadian natural resources minister Wilkinson announced a new C$ 3.8 billion strategy to strengthen production and process of critical minerals

Critical minerals are essential for clean technologies such as solar panels and batteries for electric vehicles, as well as for middle-class job creation and the growth of the Canadian economy.
The global net-zero movement is leading to increased demand for critical minerals, creating new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses.
A global energy transition wouldn’t be possible without accelerated activities to strengthen the production and processing of important minerals.
On December 9th, Canada’s natural resources minister, Jonathan Wilkinson, announced a new Canadian critical minerals strategy.
The government of Canada will focus on critical mineral research, mining, production, processing and recycling to establish a secure supply chain for critical minerals, with the budget from 2022 that is approximately C$3.8 billion (approximately 380 billion yen) for this strategy.
This strategy covers 31 important Canadian minerals, with particular focus on developments in lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, copper, rare earths, potassium, uranium and aluminum.
The company plans to focus on the following six areas to achieve its strategic goals.

1)promoting research, innovation and exploration

2)acceleration of project development

3)building sustainable infrastructure

4)promotion of reconciliation with indigenous people

5)training diverse workforce and rich communities

6)strengthening global leadership and security

This strategy is one of the crucial steps for the Canadian government to support sustainable employment, protect the environment and make Canada a global supplier of clean energy.
