Economic situation in Chile (August, 2022)
From the regular report of Chilean Economy (August 2022, partially includes data from July) published by the Embassy of Japan in Chile, we may suppose that the influence of inflation is strong both in Chile and in the world, considering from its topics such as the decline in mining production index and the trade deficit.
According to the report, the economic activity index in July was 1.0% (comparing to the same month of the previous year) that includes the index in mining industry (-6.4% comparing to the same month of the previous year). The mining production index was -6.5% comparing to the same month of the previous year.
The amount of exports in August was 7.84 billion dollars (-0.8% comparing to the same month of the previous year), that includes the export of mining products (4.25 billion dollars, -13.2% comparing to the same month of the previous year, 54.2% of the total). The amount of exported copper was 3.27 billion dollars (-26.4% comparing to the same month of the previous year, 77.0% of the total).
On the other hand, the amount of imports was 8.83 billion dollars (12.0% comparing to the same month of the previous year), which shows 990 million dollars of trade deficit.
The amount of trade with China, Japan, and South Korea (July) is shown below:
With China: exportation 2.99 billion (0.1%), importation 2.02 billion (-7.7%), total amount of trade 5.0 billion (-3.2%)
With Japan: exportation 470 million (-43.7%), importation 250 million (27.5%), total amount of trade 730 million (-30.1%)
With South Korea: exportation 530 million (13.1%), importation 130 million (-19.9%), total amount of trade 660 million (4.7%)
