Economic situation in Chile (October, 2022)

According to the regular report of economy (October 2022, includes some data from September) published by the Embassy of Japan in Chile, overall, the strong influence of inflation can be observed, though the trade result was a surplus.

First, the economic activity index in the mining industry in September was -0.1%, the mining production index was -0.01%, and the copper production was -2.6%.

Perhaps because of this, the international copper price in October started at $3.41 per pound, and ended at $3.47 per pound, that is 0.2% of data from the end of the previous month.

The value of exports in October was $7.60 billion (-2.2%), of which mining products accounted for $4.44 billion (-10.1%, 58.4% of the total), of copper amounted to 3.48 billion dollars (-22.0%, 78.5% of total mining exports).

On the other hand, the value of imports was 7.14 billion dollars (-13.3%), and the trade balance was a surplus of 460 million dollars.

The amount of trade with China, Japan, and South Korea (September) resulted as below:

With China: exportation 2.8 billion (-0.8%), importation 1.87 billion (-3.4%), total amount of trade 4.67 billion (-1.9%)
With Japan: exportation 710 million (80.1%), importation 230 million (9.1%), total amount of trade 940 million (55.7%)
With South Korea: exportation 410 million (9.7%), importation 140 million (28.6%), total amount of trade 550 million (14.0%)
